Job Type/Schedule This position is full-time and works approximately 40 hours per week. Department Name/Job Location This position is in the Department of Neurology. This position is for the Medical School Campus. Essential Functions POSITION SUMMARY: This posting seeks to identify a Senior Research Technician to conduct research projects and assist with research activities of the Kummer lab. The interest of this lab is focused on understanding the mechanisms of acute brain injury and their connection to neurodegenerative processes. The successful candidate will independently perform complex research studies, experiments and assays. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Performs complex analysis/projects according to research protocols, explaining methods and procedures to other technicians. 2. Provides for data entry and current data files on research projects. Monitors data to ensure consistent quality. 3. May perform preliminary statistical analysis of data. 4. Assures compliance with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions. 5. Ensures lab conditions and equipment are properly cleaned and maintained in accordance with established procedures. 6. Assists in the training and development of technicians, acting as a group leader. Required Qualifications Master’s degree with two years of experience in a laboratory setting or an equivalent combination of education and experience equaling seven years. Preferred Qualifications * Hands on work experience with mice. * Ability to handle and monitor mice, perform injections, harvest tissue and perform breeding and screening. * Experience in microscopic imaging, molecular biology, and biochemistry. * Basic coding skills in languages pertinent to biological research (R, Python, Matlab, Julia, etc). * Demonstrated ability to work independently and communicate with laboratory staff and investigators. * Ability to maintain complete and organized records. * Working knowledge of computer software and general lab equipment. Salary Range The hiring range for this position is $17.00 - $22.96 per hour.
