Job Type/Schedule This position is full-time and works approximately 37.5 hours per week. Department Name/Job Location This position is in the Department of University Advancement. This position is for the Danforth Campus. Essential Functions POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the Assistant Vice Chancellor, Medical Advancement, the Senior Director of Strategic Engagement will be responsible for designing, implementing, and executing strategies that drive constituent engagement and deepen the relationships with donors, alumni, house staff, and parents. This is a key position in Medical Advancement and will work in a matrixed way with all areas of Advancement to evaluate the existing function area of Alumni Relations and to create the emerging function area of Donor Relations and to integrate them to create the strategic engagement program to engage, inform, cultivate and deepen relationships with the School’s various constituencies. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Donor Relations: * Working with the emerging function area of Donor Relations, the Senior Director’s roles and responsibilities will include, and not limited to, the following: * Coordinate with Advancement Donor Relations to hire and supervise the new Director of Donor Relations. * Collaborate with Major Gift Officers, working in conjunction with the function area of stewardship, and develop individual donor impact plans to highlight how philanthropic support is advancing the School of Medicine. * Oversee preparation of well-researched, well-written, and highly individualized impact reports for key donors. * Plan highly-tailored individualized donor events and campus visits. * Plan and deliver innovative, creative, and individually-tailored multimedia donor-relation activities a key component of our donor-centric model. 2. Alumni and Constituent Relations: * Working with the function area of Alumni & Constituent Relations, the Senior Director of Strategic Engagement responsibilities will include, and not limited to, the following: * Supervise the Associate Director of Alumni & Constituent Relations. * Reimagine and update the School of Medicine’s Annual Reunion programming. * Oversee and manage the planning and management of a successful annual reunion providing a variety of engagement and cultivation activities. * Identify and recruit reunion volunteers, in conjunction with SOM Major Gifts. * Washington University Medical Center Alumni Association (WUMCAA): * Analyze the WUMCAA and develop a strategy to enhance the level engagement and cultivation provided through this volunteer experience. * Provide leadership to the officers, committees and members of the WUMCAA Executive Council. * Prepare materials (treasurer's report, agenda, and policy recommendations) and provide orientation of new officers and members on a regular basis. * Identify and recruit WUMCAA members. * Develop and implement a strategic plan to further engage various School of Medicine Constituencies. * National Council: * Assist with the preparation for the School of Medicine’s National Council Meetings. 3. Collaboration with Stewardship: * Working with the function area of Stewardship, the Senior Director of Strategic Engagement will collaborate with the Senior Director of Stewardship on the following areas of responsibities: * Stewardship reporting. * Gift acknowledgement. * Work with the Office of Special Events for stewardship events (Professorship installations, Scholarship Celebration, and dedications/ground breakings etc.). 4. Provide strategic direction and participation with the newly created medical communications taskforce. 5. Undertake other projects and duties as assigned by the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Medical Advancement. Required Qualifications * Bachelor’s degree. * At least seven years of progressively responsible fundraising and management experience in advancement; depth of knowledge in all key areas of advancement. * Highly successful and experienced professional with thorough knowledge of institutional development, particularly higher education and/or medicine. * Ability to supervise and direct professional and administrative staff members. * Skill to oversee the planning and execution of events. * Ability to articulate the needs, interests, and accomplishments of the School of Medicine to a wide range of audiences. * Capacity to perform in an intellectually rigorous and complex environment, exhibit personal characteristics enabling effective interaction with important constituencies. * Possess a genuine curiosity and commitment to the advancement of science and science education and to the principles governing the Medical Advancement. * Ability to plan, organize, and direct development programs requiring a high degree of coordination and cooperation with other staff. * Outstanding ability helping to plan, coordinate and manage development projects and campaigns. * Demonstrated expertise with personal solicitations, stewardship and gift processes. * Ability to work effectively with diverse constituents (board members, chancellor, vice chancellors, deans, school or unit directors, etc.). * Excellent verbal and written communication skills. * Exceptional organizational abilities with commitment to meet deadlines. Preferred Qualifications * Master’s degree or terminal degree. * Experience within a complex university, national non-profit organization, or organization with sub-units and complex reporting relationships. * Previous success in fundraising (Annual Giving and/or Major Gifts). Salary Range Base pay commensurate with experience.
