This position is in the Department of Pediatrics Newborn Medicine. The position is located at the Northwest Tower. This position is for the Medical School Campus.

Essential Functions

POSITION SUMMARY:

Position is responsible for coordinating the care of patients for a designated service throughout the continuum of care; serves as a clinical resource in Newborn Perinatal Medicine.

Clinic nurse for physicians in the department of Newborn Medicine. Assist clinic director with clinic, scheduling and patient related issues focusing on the management of newborn infants. Assist patients in transition from NICU to home. Coordinates and attends follow up appointments for Fetal Care Center patients in the Spina Bifida Clinic. Responsible for pre-certification of outpatient services, therapies, Synagis. Responsible for insurance re-certification of ongoing therapies, home medical equipment and supplies. Responsible for management of ongoing patient needs related to oxygen, medications, therapy services and community resources for patients discharged from NICU and follow-up clinic patients.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provides direct patient care, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patients; completes health history and physical examination on patients; conveys findings to physician.
  2. Coordinates patient care, orders diagnostic tests, conveys findings to physician, attends inpatient rounds, coordinates patient appointments, and assists with referrals to outside sources.
  3. Assists physician and provides support with examinations, procedures, and other processes related to direct patient care.
  4. Performs a variety of nursing administrative duties, including compliance with environmental safety regulations, infection control standards, and quality assurance.
  5. Acts as liaison and team leader by facilitating communication and coordination of care between patients, families, and health team members; explains routines and procedures to patients and coordinates patient care information to appropriate sources.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program with 2 years of nursing experience.
  • REQUIRED LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION: Currently Licensed in the State of Illinois and/or Missouri RN licensure, as applicable to work location in accordance with the Compact Act; Basic Life Support certification (Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Pediatric and/or newborn nursing experience.
  • Working knowledge of techniques and methodologies used in developing, coordinating, and managing clinical research projects with working knowledge of database management, spreadsheet, and statistical analysis software.

Salary Range

The hiring range for this position is $53,706 - $96,674 annually.
