Job Type/Schedule This position is full-time and works approximately 40 hours per week. Department Name/Job Location This position is in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism & Lipid Research. This position is for the Medical School Campus. Essential Functions POSITION SUMMARY: Our laboratory is focusing our efforts on the following projects. 1. Development of regenerative gene therapy for Wolfram syndrome characterized by juvenile-onset diabetes, retinal degeneration, and progressive neurodegeneration. 2. Development of Next-Generation-Sequencing-based diagnostics and precision medicine for Wolfram syndrome, WFS1-related disorders, and genetic forms of diabetes and retinal degeneration. We are seeking a research technician to assist with experiments related to ongoing projects in the laboratory. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Assists with research studies, experiments and assays, including collection of data, preparation of solutions and set-up and maintenance of equipment. 2. Performs data entry and maintains data files on research. 3. Prepares tissue cultures, reagents, probe tests, etc. 4. Complies with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions. 5. Ensures lab conditions and equipment are properly cleaned and maintained in accordance with established procedures. 6. Assists with general lab maintenance and cleaning. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree and up to one year of experience in a laboratory setting or an equivalent combination of education and experience equaling four years. Preferred Qualifications * Previous experience working with lab animals. * Previous experience with a variety of biomedical techniques. * Demonstrated proficiency in implementing laboratory procedures. * Demonstrated ability to work independently and communicate with laboratory staff and investigators. * Ability to maintain complete and organized records/reports. * Working knowledge of computer software and general lab equipment. Salary Range The hiring range for this position is $14.07 - $18.99 per hour.
