Job Type/Schedule This position is full-time and works approximately 40 hours per week. Department Name/Job Location This position is in the Department of Anesthesiology, WU Pain Center. This position is for the Medical School Campus. Essential Functions POSITION SUMMARY: The research of the lab focuses on the neural mechanisms of chronic itch and pain. This position assists with the technical aspects of studies and experiments, including documentation and preparation of materials. Additional details about the lab can be found here: Qin Liu, PhD | Center for the Study of Itch & Sensory Disorders | Washington University in St. Louis. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Performs hands on work with mice: manages breeding and genotyping, keeps accurate records, and assists in experiments as needed. 2. Assists with research studies, experiments and assays, including collection of data, preparation of solutions and set-up and maintenance of equipment. 3. Performs data entry and maintains data files on research. This includes assisting in drafting lab protocols. 4. Complies with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions. 5. Ensures lab conditions and equipment are properly cleaned and maintained in accordance with established procedures. 6. Assists in general lab upkeep, cleaning, maintenance, reagent procurement, and compliance. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree and up to one year of experience in a laboratory setting or an equivalent combination of education and experience equaling four years. Preferred Qualifications * Demonstrated ability to work independently. * Deep understanding of laboratory safety and compliance. * Ability to be highly motivated. * Excellent organizational and communication skills. * Possess fundamental knowledge of cellular and molecular biology. * Prior experience in animal husbandry and colony management. * Experience in molecular biology techniques. * Working knowledge of computer software and general lab equipment. Salary Range The hiring range for this position is $14.07 - $18.99 per hour.
