Sarcomas are a rare group of over 80 types of tumors of mesenchymal origin that can be divided into 2 categories: soft tissue sarcomas (STS) and bone sarcomas. In 2018, the incidence of all sarcomas was 15000 patients, of which soft tissue sarcomas represented 80%. For high grade non-metastatic soft tissue sarcomas, the standard of care treatment involves surgical excision, chemotherapy, and adjuvant radiation. Despite this multimodality approach, the risk of relapse remains high at 50%, with most of these representing metastatic failures. Identification of better systemic treatments to prevent relapse are needed.
The focus of my laboratory is on the metabolism of sarcoma and the development of therapeutics through an understanding of the underlying biology of these cancers.
The current specific interests of the laboratory in on the metabolic differences that sarcoma has and how we can information to better treat patients. There is extensive use of both animal mouse models of disease and primary tissues.
General work of the lab involves the design, performance and interpretation of ongoing sarcoma studies, and assistance with management of the mouse colony.
Candidates will ideally have at least a bachelor's degree and those with basic laboratory experience are encouraged to apply.
- A background in biology, biochemistry, microbiology, or related field is highly desirable.
- Willingness to perform small animal procedures.
- Ability to communicate effectively and work well with others is essential.
- Ability to troubleshoot experiments and work independently.
- Excellent record keeping and organizational skills.
Base pay commensurate with experience.
