This position is full-time and works approximately 40 hours per week.

Essential Functions

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports pediatric neurosurgical research across the continuum of experimental models and studies. In addition to routine cellular and molecular research techniques, this research assistant will assist with research studies, experiments, preparation of material, and documentation.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Conducts research experiments and assays, including primary cell culture experiments using approved Standard Operating Procedures.

  2. Evaluates research results, reporting findings and discussing project outcomes with staff involved.

  3. Performs data entry and maintains data files on research.

  4. Coordinates tissue cultures, reagents, probe tests, etc.

  5. Complies with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions. Assists with Environmental Health and Safety documentation.

  6. Coordinates research project with other institutions and investigators.

  7. Participates in developing hypotheses to be tested and ways of testing it.

  8. Assists with general supply/equipment orders, lab maintenance and cleaning, including lab equipment, animal procedure room, and freezers.

  9. Performs literature research on specified topics.

Required Qualifications

Equivalent of bachelor’s degree with 2-3 years experience in laboratory operations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and communicate well with laboratory staff and investigators.
  • Ability to be a team player, willingness to learn, highly motivated, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain complete and organized records/reports.
  • Working knowledge of computer software and general lab equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot experimental techniques and to interpret/analyze data from histological and molecular biological experiments.
  • Excellent multitasking skills are highly desired.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement general laboratory procedures, conduct research, and record findings, with focus on pursuit of advanced education in the field.

Salary Range

The hiring range for this position is $15.46 - $20.88 per hour.

Applicant Special Instructions

This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological, chemical and radioactive hazards. The invididual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.
