General Summary: Under general supervision of SSM Health System VP for Quality and Safety, and matrix reporting to the Chief Medical Officer – St. Louis Region. This position will serve to coordinate activities relating to quality, quality measures and quality improvement as well as patient safety and risk within the SSM Health St. Louis Region. This position will work at all levels of care including ambulatory, acute and post-acute care, and in collaboration with other patient safety, patient experience and performance improvement professionals.

This person filling this position must have a passion for improving the quality of care and safety of patients cared for within the SSM Health system. This position requires someone who is collaborative, hard-working, dynamic in thought and action; solution oriented, analytic and committed to excellence.

Duties and Responsibilities: 1 Coordinates and oversees quality and performance improvement and Accreditation initiatives within the SSM Health St. Louis, that directs, coordinates, and leads change to positive outcomes and improved quality performance.

2 Insures that there are processes in place to monitor, direct and measure all activities related to quality improvement and patient safety.

3 Uses information from a variety of sources to identify opportunities for improvement

4 Works with the SSM Health Chief Quality Office to creates timelines and deliverables for workflow development, implementation, and monitoring for selected quality measures

5 Assists SSM Health with dashboard development in support of operating mechanisms to address deficiencies.

6 Understands and becomes familiar with databases, data and analysis provided by SSM Health to support initiative in the St. Louis Region

7 Supports the Co-Chairs of the Patient Safety and Quality Committee (CMO and CNO) and insures collaboration and alignment throughout the different care environments including acute, post-acute, and ambulatory care

8 Identifies and monitors quality-related accreditation requirements and ensures compliance. Tracks performance relative to national benchmarks providing feedback/data to leadership and guidance toward effective performance improvement interventions, including par for performance measures.

9 Develops policies and procedures, gathers reports and organizes materials across the St. Louis Region and the SSM Health System, to ensure compliance with national standards.

10 Reviews registry reports to identify areas of opportunity, complete drill down analysis as necessary, present results in appropriate forums as requested, and assist in facilitation of quality improvements as needed.

11 Serves as the primary liaison between the Service areas and SSM Health St. Louis Region, and participates with Patient Safety, Employee Engagement, Patient Experience, Medical Peer Review and SSM Health St. Louis leaders in patient peer review.

12 Prepares regularly scheduled or special reports for the SSM Health St. Louis, Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer

13 Performs other duties that may be assigned by SSM Health Leadership or as required to meet emergency needs of the department or hospital.

14 Promotes and supports professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.

15 Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.

  1. Represents Saint Louis Region on national groups, both internal and external, to guide, lead, develop, and share best practice models of care and operation.

  2. Communicates the organization vision to internal and external stakeholders.

  3. Hires, performs disciplinary actions, provides employee training and development, and conducts performance assessments for assigned staff.

  4. Develops and monitors the payroll, non-payroll, and capital budgets and expenditures for assigned areas.

Qualifications

Training or experience in

  • Healthcare quality improvement

  • Performance improvement

  • Safety

  • Healthcare accreditation (TJC, CMS, DHHS)

  • LEAN, Six-Sigma

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare related field

  • Master’s Degree in public health, healthcare administration or related field

*Required Experience *

  • Minimum of 7 years of clinical experience

  • At least one year experience with national quality measures

  • Three years’ experience with supervision/team leadership over clinical staff, and related policy and procedure development

Certification/Registration:

  • Certified Professional Healthcare Quality (CPHQ)

  • Licensure as a medical professional or RN license in MO as appropriate
