This position is in the Center for Genome Sciences and Systems Biology, and the Department of Pathology and Immunology located at the Medical School Campus.

Essential Functions


Position assists with the technical aspects of studies and experiments including documentation and preparation of materials. Projects in the lab use novel genomic and microbial technologies to understand, harness, and synthetically engineer the biochemical processing potential of microbial communities. We utilize animal models to replicate important clinical settings of infection as well as perturbations to complex microbial communities. More details available at: http://dantaslab.wustl.edu/.


  1. Assists with research studies, experiments and assays including DNA and RNA isolation, PCR, gel electrophoresis, next-generation sequencing library preparation, creating functional metagenomic libraries, collection of data, preparation of solutions and set-up and maintenance of equipment.
  2. Assists with small animal procedures and maintains animal colonies.
  3. Collects animal serum, stool and urine.
  4. Performs oral, intravenous and subcutaneous administration of therapeutic agents/interventions.
  5. Performs data entry and maintains data files on research including archival and inventory of clinical research samples.
  6. Prepares tissue cultures, reagents, probe tests, etc.
  7. Complies with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
  8. Ensures lab conditions and equipment are properly cleaned and maintained in accordance with established procedures.
  9. Assists with general lab maintenance and cleaning.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and up to 1 year of experience in a laboratory setting or equivalent combination of education and experience equaling 4 years required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience with mouse models is essential.
  • Experience in animal husbandry and high-throughput molecular biology techniques.
  • Experience with microbiology, genomic and/or metagenomic techniques, DNA library creation, or next-generation sequencing techniques will be considered a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and communicate with laboratory staff and investigators.
  • Ability to maintain complete and organized records/reports.
  • Working knowledge of computer software and general lab equipment.

Salary Range

The hiring range for this position is $14.07 - $18.99 per hour.
