Washington University of St. Louis Insurance Billing/Collection Assistant II - Orthopaedic Surgery - 45053 in St. Louis, Missouri

This position is full-time and works approximately 40 hours per week.

This position is in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. The position is located at 1234 Kingshighway.

Essential Functions


Provides support within the TP Follow up staff, including performing registration and insurance updates. Obtains referrals and verifies insurance benefits. Takes patient and other customer phone calls. Assists with Credentialing of New Faculty for the department. Performs clerical duties including scheduling meetings, preparing correspondences, faxing, mailing, scanning, data entry, filing, and ordering supplies. Coordinates office functions.


  1. Assists TP Follow up Staff with routine follow up needs.
  2. Follows up with payers as directed.
  3. Verifies insurance coverage and obtains referrals as appropriate.
  4. Phone work to include payer inquires and other billing questions.
  5. Scans documents into billing system.
  6. Assists with Payer Credentialing.
  7. Attends in-services and staff meetings.
  8. Other clerical functions such as correspondences, faxing, mailing, data entry, filing and ordering supplies.

Other Functions:

  1. Greets location visitors.
  2. Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Equivalent of High School diploma with 2 to 3 years of related experience in bookkeeping/accounting and/or medical collection setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Organization, communication and computing skills.
  • Knowledge of insurance plans and referral procedures.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word.

Salary Range

The hiring range for this position is $15.85 - $19.43 per hour.
