Job Title: Apprentice Instrument Technician I

Objective: Manufacture machined parts to the highest quality by following verbal and written procedures and blueprints


  • Operate manual mills, Lathe, drill press, file and shape machined parts.

  • Load and secure work piece in fixture.

  • Tends to one or more machines, observes operation, and checks parts using micrometer and calipers.

  • Learn and apply new techniques and skills to manufacture parts used in surgical instruments within standard times.

  • Complete each hurdle in the 5 year apprenticeship program.

Scope of Position:

  • Work within various area in the shop to learn new machines and jobs.

  • Consistently and diligently meets or exceeds standards for time, hours earned or appropriate amounts of completed work.


Required Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Required Experience:

  • Ability to visualize shapes.

  • Ability to follow verbal and written manufacturing procedures.

  • Able to read and understand blueprints.

Preferred Experience:

  • Previous experience working in a machine shop environment or Hand metal working experience would be helpful.

  • Previous experience using hand tools such pliers, hammer or files.

Required Skills/Qualifications: Excellent manual dexterity
