The Whole Person Occupational Therapist - Home Health Care (PRN) in St. Joseph, Missouri

Title: Occupational Therapist

St. Joseph, Missouri

Department: Home Health Care

Reports to: Administrator of Home Health Services

Status: Part-time - Non-Exempt

Hours per week: PRN


Responsible for the delivery of professional occupational therapy services through out Kansas City and St. Joseph, Missouri, in the patient’s home, which will address the physical, psycho-social, spiritual, cultural, developmental, and age-appropriate needs of each individual patient.


  • Evaluates patient’s functional status (muscle function, endurance, visual coordination, written and verbal communication skills, self-care ability, work capacity, etc.)

  • Evaluates home environment hazards or barriers to more independent living. Identifies equipment needs.

  • Assists patients in achieving optimum levels of functioning in self-care, work, school, home-making and/or leisure activities.

  • Under the direction of the physician, plans a therapeutic program to develop the patient’s motor, cognitive, sensory-integrative, psychological and social functions needs.

  • Perform an accurate OASIS-C timepoint(s) according to CMS guidance

  • Participates in the development of the total plan of care.

  • Will utilize physical means of sound, light, electricity, water, heat, cold, exercise, splinting, and manual interventions.

  • Develops a treatment program and establishes goals for improved function. Communicates plan of care to referring physicians and other team members.

  • May teach new skills or retrain patient in once familiar daily activities that have been lost due to illness or injury.

  • Responsible for documenting care plan, rehabilitative potential, and discharge planning needs.

  • Regular and predictable attendance


  • Graduate from accredited school of occupational therapy

  • Current Missouri Occupational Therapist (OTR) license

  • Licensed as OTR for a minimum of two years with two years experience.

  • Possesses and maintains current CPR Certification

  • Must be a licensed driver with an automobile that is insured in accordance with state requirements and is in good working order.


  • Personal experience with a disability


  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft office

  • Ability to communicate appropriately and effectively with patients and their family, physicians, staff and other healthcare professionals

  • Ability to manage time effectively

  • Ability to maintain integrity

  • Ability to read and comprehend medical instructions given from written or verbal sources

  • Ability to work with minimal or no supervision

  • Ability to use diplomacy and tact when dealing with problems.
