Assists in the provision of a safe and clean environment. Promotes the therapeutic environment and the efficiency of the nursing team. Provides safe patient transport throughout the facility as directed. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Company Service Standards. Obtains approriate handoff communication from the RN responsible for the assigned patient to include information regarding the patient's identified care needs, diagnosis, visual, auditory, or language barriers, as well as any special consideration NPO, bed alarms, fall risk, ambulation status, etc.. Positions self in patient room at bedside to maintain constant visual observation of the patient. Never leaves the patient alone or out of sight unless specifically instructed by the RN responsible for the assigned patient. Observant of the patient's activity and behavior and communicates on a regular basis to the responsible RN. Receives direction from the RN regarding what to report, to whom, and how. Assists the responsible RN/PCA to provide the assigned patient general comfort measures, safety, and satisfaction. Maintains patient environment in a safe and orderly manner. Notifies RN of any untoward events, i.e., behavioral changes, violent behavior, etc. Functions cooperatively as a team member. Responds as directed by responsible RN to changing patients'/unit's needs. During a patient or environmental emergency, may serve as a runner or transport patients as directed. Communication:6.1 Utilizes Personal Service communication techniques in all interactions.6.2 Assures timely notification of changes in patient to responsible RN.6.3 Utilizes constructive problem solving techniques to promote change and deal with issues. Follows appropriate communication channel i.e., responsible PCA, RN, charge nurse, or nurse manager for addressing issues, concerns, and problems.6.4 Communicates in a diplomatic and professional manner and collaborates with team members.6.5 Effectively communicates pertinent shift information with the responsible RN with the goal of improving patient care processes and the quality of care that is delivered.6.6 Contributes to staff meeting content as needed.6.7 Performs end of shift hand-off with oncoming sitter and responsible RN/PCA.
