The Nuclear Medicine Technologist is a highly specialized health care professional who looks at how the body functions in order to help in diagnosis and treatment of a range of conditions and diseases. Nuclear medicine combines imaging, patient care, chemistry, physics, mathematics, computer technology, and medicine.

About this unit:

  • Diagnostic Imaging department support patients from outpatient, inpatient and the Emergency Department.

  • Total monthly volume for department and all modalities is 4000 scans.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepares, measures, and administers radiopharmaceuticals in diagnostic and therapeutic studies, utilizing variety of equipment and following prescribed procedures.

  • Calibrates equipment.

  • Performs diagnostic studies on patients as prescribed by physician, using scanners or scintillation cameras to detect radiation emitted and to produce counters, scalers, and scintillation detectors.

  • Administers therapeutic dose of radiopharmaceuticals under the direction of a physician.

  • Follows radiation safety techniques in use and disposal of radioactive materials.

  • The Nuclear Med Tech in this department provides care for adolescent patients between 12 to 17 years of age; adult patients between 18 to 64 years; and geriatric patients 65 years and older.

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited AMA program with a certificate or degree in Radiologic Technology, Nuclear Medicine Technology.

  • Must be registered with the ARRT RT(R)(N)_or_NMTCB or eligible for registry. BCLS required upon hire.

  • Two years of experience preferred. PRN positions require one year of experience.

  • On Call required and must have the ability to initiate the process of ordering the radioactivity for injection and report to LSMC by time of Radio Isotopes.

_Lee’s Summit Medical Center_serves Lee’s Summit, Missouri, and surrounding areas. The 80 -bed advanced technology facility is both a Joint Commission Chest Pain Certified Hospital and a Joint Commission Certified Primary Stroke Center. LSMC is part of HCA Healthcare.
