Transplant nurses are a crucial part of the organ transplant team. In fact, it is the transplant nurse who often has the most contact with the patient. Transplant nurses are involved in every step of the organ donation process, from preparing the patient for surgery to monitoring the transplant recipient’s health afterward.

Responsibilities:

  • The Transplant Coordinator serves as liaison with the transplant team, nephrologists, consulting services, dialysis facilities, dietitians, and social workers as they involve pre-transplant patients.

  • Coordinates all potential transplant patient evaluations.

  • Coordinates and presents all preoperative teaching and scheduling for recipients and living donors.

  • Coordinates flow of patients on UNOS waiting list with OPO.

  • Available on-call for recipient donor calls.

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.

  • Currently licensed as a registered professional nurse in the state(s) of practice and/or has an active compact license, in accordance with law and regulation.
  • Current BCLS is required.
  • A minimum of 2 years RN experience in the hospital setting.
  • A minimum of 1 years in nephrology highly perferred.
