Summary The Registered Nurse functions as a primary nurse for a defined specialty focus in SPS for her/his shift. They function as the primary Educator for SPS Medical Supply Technicians and will work closely with Surgical Services and the SPS/OR Liaison nurse. The RN is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising the educational process with the SPS staff. Responsibilities The SPS Specialty Educator provides the following services, but are not limited to: - Responsible for the assessment of learning needs for all SPS staff. - Responsible for providing education based on learning needs assessments for the SPS staff and reporting outcomes to the SPS Chief. - Responsible for providing education on and ensuring implementation of manufacturer's equipment cleaning standards with the SPS staff and reporting to the SPS Chief any areas of deficiency. - Responsible for working collaboratively with the OR/SPS Liaison in creating new surgical instrument sets and count sheets for new instrumentation requested by Surgeons, updating Censitrack and then educating the SPS staff. - Knowledge of sterile technique must include sterilizer operations and tests to determine the effectiveness of sterilization, packaging storage, and shelf life. Knowledge must include the proper handling and rotation of sterile supplies, storage room temp and humidity, handling of contaminated items, quality control, and personal hygiene. - Knowledge of universal precautions and know how to implement infection control policies and procedures. - Will wear required personal protective attire required for SPS clean areas and PPE for decontamination, to be readily available to enter any areas of SPS if needed.
