As a Level 1 Trauma Center, we’re a leader in Emergency Medicine and Critical Care, with world-class expertise in chronic disease management and women’s services, including high-risk maternity care. The Health Sciences District is also home to the University Health building , TMC’s beautiful specialty outpatient clinics and day-surgery center. We will soon open University Health 2, which will house all of our primary care and women’s care clinics.

TMC/UH Lakewood is located between Kansas City and Lee’s Summit, Missouri, offering residents of Eastern Jackson County access to a modern community hospital with a continuum of outpatient services designed to meet the needs of families. TMC/UH Lakewood specializes in high-risk maternal and child care, and serves as one of the few Kansas City metro area institutions accredited by The Joint Commission in Orthopedics and Palliative Care. It also is home to a 188-bed, fully accredited long-term care center.

TMC/UH Behavioral Health is the KC metro area’s largest, most comprehensive provider of mental health services. The Healing Canvas Building, located in Kansas City’s vibrant Crossroads Arts District, is its epicenter, providing a broad list of outpatient services. We also offer psychiatric inpatient care, and we deliver therapeutic services through our community outreach clinics. We are a leader in the Trauma-Informed Care Movement, and provide training, coaching and consulting to outside organizations.

The Medical Assistant provides care for patients under the direction of the physician in the ambulatory clinic and/or procedural setting. As a part of the healthcare team, they support administrative and clinical functions within their work setting. In collaboration with patients and the healthcare team collects and records important health information data as part of the admission and discharge process. Incorporates patient education into the plan of care. Completes and/or assists with procedures.

Required Skills

Minimum Requirements

  1. High school diploma or equivalent

  2. Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program

    1. Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)-certification by the American Association of Medical Assistant (AAMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) –certification by American Medical Technologists (AMT) or Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) –certification by National Association for Health Professionals. [Beginning 1/1/2013, all new hires are required to possess one of the above certifications and maintain for continued employment.]
  3. Current BCLS certification upon hire & maintained for continued employment

  4. Ability to perform POCT, immunizations, and injections

  5. Ability to work independently, prioritize and problem solve.

  6. Excellent organization skills.

  7. Considerable ability to provide superior customer service skills

  8. Proficient in Microsoft applications and basic computer skills

  9. If the position is responsible for radiologic functions, employee must have receive the radiology certification or trainingin their Medical Assistant program or receive training validated through radiology competency checklist
