The Pharmacy Tech II will be responsible for performing all of the duties assigned the position and bear the responsibility for more high-risk from medical and legal perspectives critical processes that, much of the time, will be done under only indirect supervision. Pharmacy Tech II will need to have a thorough understanding of the processes occurring within the pharmacy department and policies governing those processes and be able to effectively teach others. This position may also be given responsibility to develop, manage and oversee special projects to successful completion. Performs related duties as assigned. Prescription Processing: 1.1 Recognizes drug names, different packaging, strengths and fills prescription orders. 1.2 Differentiates between look-alike and sound-alike drug names. 1.3 Fills manually or by robotics. 1.4 Gathers all relevant patient information for filling the prescription. 1.5 Able to read labels and dispense appropriate medications. 1.6 Processes narcotic prescriptions. 1.7 Ensures all controlled substance information required has been obtained. Book keeping functions: 2.1 May provide backup to lead tech in their absence for book keeping or A/R. Drug Inventory Processing-knowledge of how to return excess or unwanted inventory to wholesaler. 4.1 Cleans and stocks pharmacy. 4.2 Restocks automated drug dispensing cabinets 4.3 Ensures accurate placement of drugs in the appropriate area. 4.4 Adjusts machine drug content and Par levels. Basic overall knowledge of all pharmacy operations occurring in the pharmacy. Record Keeping: 6.1 Ensures appropriate records are received in a timely manner. 6.2 Files records in an organized manner. 7.1 Checks for and pulls outdated drugs from stock following policy. 7.2 Maintains expired/outdated inventory separately from regular inventory. 8.1 Manages time and daily job duties. 8.2 Assists pharmacists in data entry of patient specific information refill requests, missing meds, etc. 8.3 Requires understanding of and ability to work with pharmacy information system. 8.4 Able to work independently and make informed decisions regarding appropriateness of missing meds. Knowledge of drug names and dosing instructions ex. Latin abbreviations commonly used in medicine. Credit Return: 10.1 Ensures credit have been correctly issued for returned medications. 10.2 Processes credits for returned medications. Participates in development and execution of training and orientation programs for other staff. 12.1 Requires effective communication skills, positive work ethic, patience and a full understanding of processes and procedures being taught. 12 Compassion and professionalism go hand-in-hand with us.
