Avantus Federal is interviewing candidates to serve as Program Support Specialist (PSS) supporting our client, the National Guard Bureau (NGB), and the National Guard Employer Support Program (NG ESP) in collaboration with the state National Guard leadership (J1). The ideal candidate for this position will have familiarity with military life and experience supporting human capital related programs, with an emphasis on employer relations to assist with employment opportunities for Air and Army National Guard service members. Duties include:

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide direct support to the state NG Leadership with respect to administrative, counseling, reporting and employee/employer coordination duties to achieve success with the Employment Support Program mission.

  • Serve as the POC for ANG/ARNG service members, employers, support organization representatives and state NG Leadership for planning activities and referrals for employment.

  • Coordinate support with local, state, federal employment offices and agencies to ensure availability of materials, supplies and subject matter experts are leveraged, as needed, to augment training.

  • Provide instruction to National Guard members and their families on topics including job search strategies, resume writing and interviewing techniques.

  • Provide support to multiple service organizations, to include the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), Veteran Affairs, Department of Labor Workforce programs, etc., to act as a liaison for employer support.

  • Develop, coordinate and conduct training regarding employer outreach programs for individuals or groups.

  • Conduct briefings and education trainings on NGESP, USERRA, employment referrals and CEI compliance/registration programs at the appropriate levels. Coordinate with ESGR supporting offices and other agencies to ensure the availability of materials for briefings and training.

  • Provide NG ESP updates via email to Regional Lead; provide NG ESP briefing to state NG Leadership quarterly or as requested.

  • An Associate’s degree or equivalent life/work experience in a related field is required.

  • 2 years directly related experience required.

  • Ability to obtain favorable NACI and CAC

  • Experience related to balancing civilian life with military service is highly desired.

  • Experience in making oral presentations to various size groups.

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and effective written communication skills required.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; SharePoint experience is desired.

  • Military experience is desired but not required: A broad knowledge, experience, and skills in the areas of military personnel, and human resources, especially as they relate to balancing civilian life with military service. Additionally, familiarity of NG Employer Support Program activities and services is desired but not required.
