U.S. Army Medical Command Nurse (Clinical/Obstetrics-Gynecology) in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri

Summary About the Position: This is a permanent position located at DCNHS, Nursing Division, Maternal and Child Care Ward, General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital, Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri. Responsibilities Provide specialized and comprehensive antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum nursing care to normal to high-risk obstetric patients. Provide newborn care for vaginal deliveries, routine scheduled cesarean and emergent cesarean sections. Administer complex medications. Administer and monitor oxygen therapy Assist with circumcisions and other infant procedures. Assist physicians and anesthesia providers with complex procedures such as insertion of internal monitors, placement of epidural catheters and invasive monitoring lines, and induction of general anesthesia. Monitor patient condition through data collected by continuous observation and precise calculation of fluid levels. Provide information on disease process, pre and post-operative care, diagnostic procedures, use of equipment related to disease/case etc. to patient and patient family. Lead patient care conferences and conduct classes as part of in-service training. Individual Occupational Requirements for Nurse (CLINICAL/OBSTETRICS-GYNECOLOGY): Basic Education Requirement: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional educational program is required.This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts with your application). License Requirement: Applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration asa professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Qualification Requirements: In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Education Substitution: Successful completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field; OR Degree and Experience: Possession of a diploma, bachelor's degree, or master's degree from a professional nursing educational program and at least one full year of professional nursing experience equivalent to the GS-9 grade level. Professional Nursing Experience is defined as: providing nursing care of patients during labor and delivery; performing procedures to include starting intravenous infusions and intravenous antibiotics; and setting up and monitoring specialized equipment to include external and internal fetal monitors, suction devices, and patient monitoring systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the Federal Service (GS-09).
