Provides quality medical nutrition therapy for patients/clients and promotes nutrition education to co-workers, staff and community. Collaborates with medical staff, nursing and appropriate ancillary departments to provide timely and effective implementation of nutrition care plans. Assists management staff with menu development, inservice training programs, dietary staff education. Safety/Risk Management a. Follows policy and procedures for incident report.b. Follows confidentiality policies and procedures.c. Complies with infection control guidelines.d. Knows SDS book use and location.e. Complies with patient rights and regulations.Coordination of Services a. Confers with other clinical staff with unusually complex assessment/education situations.b. Prioritizes appropriately and utilizes good judgment in use of time.c. Works effectively as a multidisciplinary team member.d. Provides nutrition care of patient with appropriate follow-up per policy/procedure.e. Professional, courteous interaction with patient, peers, and other hospital personnel.Complex Aspects a. Develops and implements nutrition education programs and education materials.b. Assists with orientation/teaching of new staff and students.c Participates in and/or helps develop department projects, committees and inservices.d. Assists with ongoing menu development and revisions.e. Maintains records of inservice training programs.Primary Aspects a. Utilizes assessment skills to identify existing or potential nutrition risk factors and documents assessments, follow up monitoring and education in medical record in an accurate and timely manner.b. Interviews patient/client family to obtain information needed to develop appropriate diet/nutrition education plan.c. Assesses patients for tube feeding/TPN/PPN. Calculates energy, protein, fluid, and other nutrient needs for the patients. Translates these needs into recommended action.d. Works toward achieving a high rating on quarterly health inspection for department/area.e. Responsible to make appropriate updates/changes/corrections to diet census.f. Provides on-call clinical services for the department every other week.Communication Management a. Demonstrates good customer and guest relation skills.b. Demonstrates active listening skills.c. Demonstrates proper telephone management techniques.d. Fosters a good working relationship with the food service staff.Technology a. Maintains knowledge base through continuing education and applies knowledge to current practice of medical nutrition care.b.
