Assists nursing staff by performing clerical duties of unit
Maintains the accuracy of all records and orders
Orders and maintains necessary supplies for the unit
Completes charts for dismissals/transfers/admits accurately
Has working knowledge of EMR and EDIS
Ability to present information in a courteous, tactful manner to patients, family, coworkers, and visitors
Answers telephone courteously and in a professional manner answers questions appropriately without giving medical advice and transfers questions to appropriate personnel
Pages appropriate departments and/or physicians for needed services in the Emergency Department
Be aware of special needs of patients including but not limited to occupational medicine and potentially contagious patients by documenting in the EMR appropriately and on ED tracking board
Initiate registration process in EMR or utilize appropriate registration process during downtime.
Greet patients when entering the Emergency Department provides quick registration and calls for appropriate staff to assist patients
Answer call lights and alert appropriate staff
Monitors ambulances radio, notifies Charge Nurse, announces their arrival directs them to a room, and alerts appropriate staff
Schedules appropriate out patient tests if necessary and updates Centeral Scheduling
Pages appropriate personnel for in-house codes
Assures accuracy and maintenance of daily patient census log during each shift
Assist with data collection for daily operational reports
Maintains lockdown of doors, when needed, monitors security cameras, and controls family/visitor access to department
Must successfully complete annual skills tests and other educational requirements set by the hospital and the Emergency Services Department
Maintains confidentiality in and out of Hospital
Performs other duties as assigned
Become
High school education or equivalent
Formal or on the job training as a secretary
Must be able to read, write and speak English
