Description
Day Shift“Scrubbing” for surgical procedures. It entails a thorough grasp of sterile technique to function in the sterile field passing sterile instruments, sutures and other supplies to the surgeonBegin
Gathers instruments and supplies needed for assignments and assists with "opening" of case
"Scrubs" and "sets up" the case and assists with gowning and gloving of surgeon and assistants
Works hours as needed and requested by leadership taking rotating call.
Anticipates needs of surgeons and assistants
Assists with surgery as needed
Maintains sterile technique during procedures and reports any unusual circumstances to surgeon/RN circulator
Work directly with the Surgeon within the sterile field by passing instruments, sponges, and other items needed during the surgical procedure
Assists RN circulator with correct identification of specimens and attends to proper disposable/preservation of such
Insert and remove foley catheter as directed by the Circulating RN or Surgeon
Assists in expediting room "turn over" time
Functions as a role model and mentor to new staff and attends in-services regularly
Duties require interaction with different patient age groups, i.e., neonate, child, adolescents, adults, and the elderly and requires recognition that different age groups require specialized attention or care
Follows chain of command for problem solving
Assisting in surgery as needed
Assists with competencies as asked. Assists with competency prep, testing and completion of appropriate paperwork
Performs other duties as assigned
Become
Graduate of an accredited operating room technology program or equivalent work experience is required
BCLS required
Certification or eligibility for certification preferred

Current licensure by Liaison Council on Certification, if Certified Surgical Technician
Must be able to read, write and speak English
