Description
Duties focus on assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating perioperative patient care and acting as a patient advocate at all timesBegin
Duties include but are not limited to:
Demonstrates the ability to be a professional role model. Demonstrate open, honest, and respectful communication
Assist to develop and support department goals and critical success factors with ability to drive awareness and participation of team members
Demonstrates flexibility and willingness to accept new ideas and challenges
Demonstrates strong customer service skills
Ensures maximum efficiency for optimal patient flow and staff assignment management (running the board). Assists to proactively communicate with physicians regarding availability of rooms, reasons for delays and other pertinent information
Responsible to keep OR Nurse Manager and the Administrative Director of Perioperative Services informed of unexpected or out of the ordinary occurrences during the work day
In conjunction with the Clinical Coordinator (and/or Team Lead) actively reviews cases the day prior and on the day of surgery to re-organize procedures as needed
Assists with coordination of materials management selection and needs with physicians, sales associates, staff members, administration, and materials management. Standardize the workflow involving the justification process for new equipment and supply requests
Effective communication with leadership staff and surgeons to standardize products. Drive awareness of supply costs
Functions as a clinical liaison and resource for the Perioperative/MM Department
Collaborates in the development of the operational and capital budget
Reviews the schedule daily. Coordinates the preparation and communication of procedural needs with departmental staff at daily huddles. Networks with PeriAnesthesia Staff to maximize efficiency of the patient experience
Proven evidence of ability to organize and prioritize
Assists in preparation of employee schedules
Obtaining equipment and supplies for assigned procedures and anticipating needs of surgeon and other "scrubbed" personnel
Ascertains that sterile technique is maintained and corrects any noted "breaks"
Verifies patient identity, correct surgical procedure, and completeness of necessary records, lab test, x-rays, etc.
Notifies surgeon/anesthesia of unusual circumstances and takes appropriate emergency actions
Prioritizes effectively to expedite "turn over time" and procedure time
Maintains positive working relationship with physicians and fellow employees - recognizes personal limitations and seeks guidance
Acts as a role model and mentor for new staff
The Team Leader/Charge Nurse will be able to perform in the role of Team Leader, Team member, and/or compatible roles
Assists others with “set-ups” and all aspects of patient care when time allows
Duties require interaction with different patient age groups, i.e., neonate, child, adolescents, adults, and the elderly, and requires recognition that different age groups require specialized attention or care
Performs other duties as assigned
Become
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
Current licensure as a registered nurse by the Missouri State Board of Nursing.
One year or more prior operating room experience preferred
BCLS required
CNOR desirable
The Charge Nurse has successfully completed orientation and has experience in their assigned area of responsibility
