  • Plan, organize, direct, and utilize the nursing process

  • Take a leadership role in all activities, going beyond traditional technical job duties to provide excellence in cardiovascular care

  • Identify basic cardiac arrhythmias and the procedure to follow for dangerous arrhythmias

  • Critical thinking skills

  • Supervise and provide encouragement and support to Patient Care Techs, unit techs, and other ancillary staff

  • Gives direct patient care according to the plan of care and individual patient needs as directed by the care plan

  • Demonstrates safe care of patients with chest tubes, drains, arterial lines, central lines and wounds

  • Identify the signs and symptoms of CHF and AMI and meet the core measures requirements

  • Administers prescribed medications safely, including managing IV’s within scope of practice

  • Completes documentation in the electronic medical record accurately and in a timely manner

  • Communicates in a courteous and professional manner with co-workers, physicians, patients, ancillary departments, and visitors

  • Maintains confidentiality

  • Monitors patients for changes in status or indications of conditions such as sepsis or shock and institutes intervention

  • Prioritizes nursing care for assigned cardiovascular surgery service line patients based on assessment and identified needs.

  • Assesses family adaptation levels and coping skills to determine whether intervention is needed with unexpected changes in physical condition

  • Maintains IV drips and IV medications per scope of practice and physician orders

  • Performs other duties as assigned


  • Graduated from an accredited professional nursing program

  • Registered professional nurse licensed by the State of Missouri and current CPR certification

  • Get ACLS certification within 90 days of employment

  • Experience working in an acute care environment, but not required

  • Complete basic cardiac arrhythmia course within first 90 days of employment

  • Must be able to read, write and speak English

  • Gain ACLS certification within 90 days of employment

  • Must attend Cardiac Pavilion education courses as requested
