Description
This multi-functional position performs venipunctures and capillary sticks following universal precaution protocol. The position also performs computer and clerical functions to order and receive laboratory data. Transport inpatients and outpatients to and from the Imaging areas and other areas of the hospital as needed. Assists as part of a lift team when needed. Receives and processes samples in the LIS with accuracy
Distributes samples to lab departments for testing
Completes outpatient lab order entry
Stocks supplies
Answers telephones and faxes reports
Transports patients (inpatients, outpatients, and Emergency Department) to and from the radiology area and other areas of the hospital as needed
Responds to the needs of the hospital and assists on lift teams
Positions patient in positions of rest and ease being aware of their privacy and dignity
Keeps foley bag below level of bladder when transporting patients with catheters; appropriate transport of any drains
Assumes care of the patient's physical and psychological needs during the transport
Transports chart, contrast and other items upon request
Retrieves stretchers and wheel chairs from other areas
Maintains current CPR certification
Duties require interaction with patients of various age groups, social and economic backgrounds
Performs other duties as assigned
Become
High school graduate or equivalent
Phlebotomy experience and PBT(ASCP) certification preferred
Computer skills preferred
Experience in patient lifting and positioning preferred.
Must be able to read, write and speak English
