Description

Variable ShiftA non-professional and non-supervisory health care employee, who under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, performs specific job responsibilities for the routine daily internal Pharmacy operations, and also performs advanced technician responsibilitiesBegin

  • Effectively use the hospital’s electronic medical record and pharmacy systems for charging / crediting, inventory adjustments and other functions

  • Lay out medications for Pyxis fill and individual patient items for final check by the Pharmacist.

  • Deliver medications and other supplies to nursing units

  • Prepare I.V. admixtures using aseptic technique, and assist in clean room maintenance as assigned

  • Prepare sterile chemotherapy admixtures using aseptic technique, and following all policies and procedures regarding hazardous materials

  • Perform assigned daily cleaning and maintenance of Packing/Preparation area.

  • Repackage pharmaceuticals for unit of use

  • Answer the telephone and window calls

  • Maintain on a routine basis the physical area of the Pharmacy

  • Assist in checking new shipments into inventory

  • Learn basic functions of purchasing pharmaceuticals and serve as a back-up when the buyer is not available

  • Serve as a formal trainer and mentor new employees

  • Consistently complete assigned audits and performance improvement projects, such as narcotic audits, inventory control, clinic order filling, etc.

  • Troubleshoot pharmacy-specific problems (such as Pyxis issues, delivery / service-related problems, etc…) and escalate if necessary

  • Perform other such duties as may be assigned by the pharmacist on duty or pharmacy management

  • Attend department staff meetings and in-service programs

  • Serve as a role model for others in the department

  • Audit Anesthesia Departments controlled substance lockers with return of the previous Controlled Substance Disposition Records to satellite Pharmacy for further processing

  • Achieve a monthly audit of all medication and IV storage areas throughout the hospital. This audit includes removal and documentation of all outdated, defective, and non-authorized items.

  • Assist in other pharmacy department responsibilities as requested by a pharmacist or pharmacy management

Become

  • High school diploma or GED required

  • Basic typing and/or computer skills

  • Experience as a Pharmacy Technician preferred

  • Certificate from an ASHP accredited pharmacy technician training program preferred

  • PTCB certification (C.Ph.T.) preferred

  • Must either possess a valid MO Board of Pharmacy Technician Registration or be eligible for application
