Variable ShiftThe Paramedic shall be familiar with the implementation aspect of the modified team nursing process. The paramedic shall demonstrate the ability to function in the following areas: team member roles, communication skills, adaptable to changing work schedules and patient needs, competency in designated roles as outlined by specific unit standards, and policiesBegin

  • Assists in patient assessment by collecting patient data:

  • Subsequent/repeat assessments

  • Vital Signs

  • Accurate I & O

  • Assists with patient care activities and treatment:

  • Venipuncture for labs

  • EKGs

  • Foley catheters

  • Specimen collection (urine, venous blood, respiratory panels, wound cultures, throat cultures)

  • Sterile field set-up

  • Wound cleaning and dressing

  • Splinting and crutch instruction

  • IV insertion

  • Medication administration

  • Documents information in the electronic medical record

  • Assists in implementation of patient's plan of care, ensuring a safe patient environment

  • Assists in transporting of patients to and from other departments

  • Ability to operate and maintain monitoring equipment and interpret cardiac rhythms

  • Monitors patients by making frequent rounds, communicating with nurses and providers

  • Effectively interacts with patients, families, visitors, and staff members

  • He/she will be able to perform in the role of team member

  • Successful completion of unit specific competency testing

  • Performs other duties as assigned


  • Licensed as a paramedic by the State of Missouri

  • Minimum 3 years of paramedic experience is preferred

  • Must successfully complete orientation requirements of Southeast Missouri Hospital

  • He/she will be able to perform in the role of team member

  • The paramedic may be trained to assume additional responsibilities as needed, within the scope of their ability

  • A high school degree or equivalent is a minimum requirement

  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS certified

  • Basic and advanced arrythmia classes provided by Southeast Missouri Hospital

  • Must be able to read, write and speak English
