Variable ShiftThe Unit Technician shall be familiar with the implementation aspect of the modified team nursing process. The Unit Tech shall demonstrate the ability to function in the following areas: team member role, communication skills, adaptable to changing work schedules and patient needs, competency in designated roles as outlined by specific unit standards, and policiesBegin

  • Assisting in admission; monitoring vital signs as ordered

  • Maintaining accurate I & O

  • Monitoring one touch

  • Venipuncture for labs; obtaining EKGs; inserting foley catheters; urine speciman collection; sterile field set-up; obtain throat culture; wound cleaning, applying casts, splints and crutch application and instruction

  • Documenting information in the electronic medical records (EMR)

  • Working as a team member to stock supplies, keep the environment clean, and help turn over rooms

  • Assists in implementation of patient's plan of care, ensuring a safe environment

  • Administering equipment, supplies and assisting with procedures appropriate to the ages of the patients under the direction of charge nurse

  • Assists and transports patients and appropriate monitoring of patients to and from other departments

  • Ability to operate and maintain monitoring of equipment and interpret lethal rhythms as necessary

  • Maintains patient safety and comfort by rounding on patients

  • Effectively interacts with patients, families, visitors, and staff members by orienting patient and family to room; maintaining confidentiality; using professional telephone etiquette; and effectively interacts with other departments

  • He/she will be able to perform in the role of team member

  • The unit tech may be trained to assume additional responsibilities as needed, within the scope of their ability

  • Successful completion of unit specific competency testing

  • Monitors patients by making frequent rounds, communicating with the nurse, and documenting in the electronic medical record (EMR)

  • Oxygen application, and C-Spine immobalization as directed by nurse and/or ER physician

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Become

  • Specialized or vocational courses as CNA is preferred. Validated completion of nursing fundamentals course (or its equivalent) preferred. State licensure as an EMT/EMTP preferred (EMT-P employee will function as Unit Tech only)

  • A high school degree or equivalent is a minimum requirement

  • BLS certification required within first 3 months of employment

  • Basic computer key boarding

  • Successfully complete fatal arrhythmia training and testing provided for ED Unit Techs by SoutheastHEALTH within 3 months of employment

  • Must successfully complete orientation requirments of SoutheastHEALTH

  • Must be able to read, write and speak English
