Device Assistant

Nursing - Other Cape Girardeau, Missouri CVC Of SoutheastHEALTH Full-Time



Day ShiftThe Device Assistant plans, directs, and organizes daily functions within the Device clinic which includes: all aspects of scheduling, remote monitoring, data entry and assisting the Physicians, Device Clinic Coordinator and Office StaffBegin

  • Manage device clinic schedules

  • Arrange follow-up appointments of device patients

  • Track follow-up for patient compliance with remote monitoring

  • Attend educational seminars on devices to keep current on changing technology

  • Return and contact patients by telephone regarding devices and appointments

  • Enters device data (serial numbers) into the patient data base (NextGen and Excel) and inputs data into Next Gen, Latitude, Carelink, and Merlin as needed

  • Generates daily worksheets/schedules for clinics

  • Coordinates daily functions of the device clinic, including regional locations

  • Educates patients and provides follow-up reminders for device checks

  • Contacts device companies for patients needing assistance with monitoring equipment

  • Checks remote monitoring on a daily basis and generates charges

  • The EKG technician is an individual that is trained on-the-job to perform EKG procedures and record keeping as required within this institution

  • Scan remote documents into the EMR

  • Retrieve device data for physicians to review

  • Orders equipment for remote monitoring

  • Compiles reports to track the work that is performed

  • Enrolls new patients into Remote Monitoring Systems

Assistant Responsibilities

  • Performs job with little or no direction and supervision

  • Greets patients and their families with a friendly attitude

  • Responsible for patient’s right to privacy and maintaining confidentiality

  • Duties require interaction with different patient age groups, i.e. adolescents, adults, and the elderly, and requires understanding that different age groups have specific needs that require specialized attention or care

  • Operates computer regularly and enters information. Must master NextGen EPM/EMR and Soarian software

  • Responsible for careful and accurate compiling and maintaining of demographic and insurance information on each patient registered at CVC or with SoutheastHEALTH Cardiac Imaging in NextGen EPM/EMR and Soarian

  • Check in and check out patients for CVC and SoutheastHEALTH Cardiac Imaging scheduling future office appointments and coordinating referrals, i.e. GI, Sleep, Primary Care, Internal, Pulmonary, etc.

  • Schedules and completes pre-registration and registration with Central Scheduling

  • Responsible for calling patients to complete imaging pre-registration, schedule imaging testing date or give patient instructions (arrival time, NPO instructions, etc.)

  • Responsible for obtaining signed consent (consent for treatment, responsible party, and assignment of insurance benefits)

  • Responsible for point of service collection of co-pays and payments on accounts

  • Answers multiple office phone lines promptly, courteously, and in a professional manner directing questions to the appropriate personnel without giving medical advice

  • Receives phone calls from patients and physician offices for scheduling of tests and procedures

  • Pages appropriate physicians for needed hospital services, i.e. consults, emergency room, transfers, STEMIs

  • Participates in the training of new employees as needed

  • Performs office duties with awareness of what needs to be done and how to achieve it

  • Keeps current on changes in policy and procedures

  • Handles business inquiries satisfactorily

  • Performs other duties as assigned


  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program

  • One to two years of experience in a medical setting, working directly with patients

  • Valid state credential, if applicable

  • Strong computer skills

  • Must be able to read, write (proficient with punctuation and grammar) and speak English
